A Day of Big Trucks, Big Smiles, and Our Heavy Wrecker
We were honored to be featured on the news ahead of this year’s Trucks & Big Rigs for Kids event in Shawnee, Kansas. The event was hosted by Johnson County Parks and Recreation at Theatre in the Park. It brings together some of the biggest and most exciting vehicles in the area for a day that local families look forward to every year.
For the 14th annual event, more than 30 vehicles filled the parking lot, including fire trucks, construction equipment, park vehicles, and tow trucks. Santa Fe Tow Service was proud to bring one of our heavy wreckers to the event and give kids, parents, and plenty of curious adults the chance to see it up close.

A FOX 4 live news segment covered the event. Marcus Officer from the local station stood beside our truck and joked that this was one of the few times he was happy to see a tow truck.
For us, events like this are always special. We spend every day around these trucks, so it is easy to forget how exciting they look to someone seeing one up close for the first time. Kids love climbing into the cab, looking at the lights, and asking questions about what the truck can do. The grownups usually have just as much fun!
Our team member Haley spoke during the interview and shared what it means to see those reactions in person:
“It’s awesome to see the kids’ reactions, and even the adults, to see something this large. It is our everyday, so it’s hard for us to kind of grasp how awesome it is for others to see it.”

A Fun Event for Kids—Big and Small
That excitement is one of the reasons we enjoy taking part in this event. There is something great about watching a child’s face light up as they stand next to a truck that towers over them. We see kids pointing at the booms, looking up at the lights, and imagining what it would be like to ride in one of our wreckers.
The event also supports a great cause. Trucks & Big Rigs for Kids is a free event with a suggested donation, and all proceeds help support adaptive recreation and Special Olympics programming through Johnson County Parks and Recreation. We were proud to spend the day with an organization that gives so much back to the community.
“We love to give back to the community that gives to us and show our support,” Haley said.
We appreciate everyone who came out to see us, climbed into the truck, took pictures, and spent part of their Saturday with us. Thank you to Johnson County Parks and Recreation for inviting us and to the FOX 4 news team for featuring Santa Fe Tow Service!
